- The film has already seen delays, a title change and reported reshoots
Actor Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi is reportedly facing a fresh hurdle, with a report claiming that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has withheld its clearance certificate until further notice. There has been no official confirmation from the makers on the certification issue so far.
The film, earlier titled Battle of Galwan, was initially expected to release in April this year but was later postponed. A revised release date has not been announced yet, even as reports have linked the film to changes, reshoots and now a possible delay in certification.
According to an NDTV report, the CBFC has put Maatrubhumi’s clearance on hold. The makers have not issued any statement on the matter. Earlier reports had also suggested that the film was being reshot after the makers were allegedly told not to use the word “China” in the film, though these reports too have not been officially confirmed.
The uneven road to release
After the postponement of its original April release plan, reports had claimed that the Salman Khan-starrer could arrive in cinemas in August around the Independence Day weekend. However, the producers have not announced any new date.
The uncertainty comes as anticipation for the film has continued to build. Fans have been waiting for updates, especially after the project went through both a title change and a release delay. The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and also stars Chitrangada Singh in a key role.
Speaking to Hindustan Times about the title change, Lakhia had earlier said, “Changing the title may feel sudden to SK sir’s fans, but it was never an overnight decision. From the start, we had registered two titles: Battle Of Galwan and Maatrubhumi. As we went through the journey of making our film, we realised it was never just about a battle. At its heart, the film is about humanity, empathy, and the silent battles our soldiers fight.”
The filmmaker had also said the new title reflected the emotional core of the story more accurately. “Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace captures that emotion and sacrifice far more truthfully. It reflects the soul of the story, preserving humanity even in the face of conflict. There’s also a song in the film by the same name, and the love it has received from audiences made the title feel even more right,” he added.
Earlier, Salman had unveiled a new version of the track Main Hoon from Maatrubhumi, featuring Chitrangda. Shot in black and white, the video focuses on love, longing and separation. The original version of the song followed the emotional journey of a soldier’s family and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families.
