MG Hector Tomahawk EV launched at Rs 19.49 lakh with 517km range

JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk EV at Rs 19.49 lakh, with a 517km claimed range, two seating layouts and a lower BaaS entry price.

JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk EV in India, with prices starting at Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric SUV is also available under the company’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership plan, bringing the starting price down to Rs 13.99 lakh, excluding battery rental charges.

The Hector Tomahawk EV is MG’s first model based on the company’s ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology). It is offered in both five- and seven-seat configurations and comes with a 69.2kWh LFP battery. MG claims a MIDC range of 517km on a full charge.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV: Price and variants

The Hector Tomahawk EV is priced between Rs 19.49 lakh and Rs 23.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The five-seat version is available exclusively in the top-spec Essence trim, priced at Rs 22.99 lakh. The seven-seat model is offered in Excite, Exclusive and Essence variants.

Under the BaaS plan, the Tomahawk EV starts at Rs 13.99 lakh, with customers paying a separate battery rental charge of Rs 4.90 per km. MG has not yet revealed the BaaS pricing for individual variants.

MG says the introductory prices are applicable to limited units.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV: Design and dimensions

The Hector Tomahawk EV gets a closed-off front-end design, LED projector headlamps and connected styling elements, including an illuminated MG logo between the lights. The lower portion of the front bumper features a black finish, while the SUV also gets 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails and black body cladding.

At the back, the electric SUV features wraparound LED tail-lamps and a powered tailgate. It measures 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,770mm in height, with a 2,810mm wheelbase and 230mm of ground clearance.

The five-seat version offers 610 litres of boot space, which can be expanded to 1,053 litres by folding the second row. In the seven-seat configuration, luggage capacity stands at 192 litres with all three rows up and increases to 528 litres with the third row folded.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV: Interior and features

The cabin gets a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging and gesture-based controls are among the key features.

The equipment list also includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 256-colour ambient lighting and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system. The SUV gets a powered tailgate, rear window sunshades and a memory function for the driver’s seat, which also features an auto-retract function.

MG has also introduced multiple cabin-oriented modes, including Nap, Camp, Energise, Pro Pet, Valet and Quiet modes.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV: Battery, range and charging

Power comes from a 69.2kWh LFP battery pack feeding a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor. The motor develops 150kW (204hp) and 310Nm. MG claims a 0-100kph acceleration time of 8.2 seconds, while the certified MIDC range stands at 517km.

The Tomahawk EV uses a CCS2 charging port and supports 90kW DC fast charging. MG claims the battery can be charged from 30 to 80 per cent in around 35 minutes using a compatible fast charger. A 7.4kW AC charger takes approximately 12.5 hours to charge the battery from 10 to 100 per cent.

A portable charger compatible with a 15A socket is also available.

The electric SUV gets bidirectional charging capabilities, including V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle). MG also claims the Tomahawk EV is the first vehicle in India to offer V2H (vehicle-to-home) functionality, allowing stored energy in the battery to be used to power household appliances through a two-way charging setup.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV: Rivals

The Hector Tomahawk EV enters the three-row electric SUV space, where it will compete primarily with the Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV. Its five-seat configuration also puts it up against a wider range of electric SUVs in the Rs 20-25 lakh price bracket.

With two seating configurations, a 517km claimed range and the option of BaaS, MG is positioning the Hector Tomahawk EV as a versatile family-focused electric SUV.
