Duleep Trophy: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gives Tilak Varma a taste of his own medicine

East Zone vice captain Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave South Zone skipper Tilak Varma a taste of his own medicine. Vaibhav riled up Varma with a bout of sledging during South Zone's innings.

As East Zone tightened their grip on the Duleep Trophy final on Day 4, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi decided to give South Zone captain Tilak Varma a taste of his own medicine.

Vaibhav, who had been on the receiving end of some words from Tilak on Day 1 of the summit clash, walked up to the South Zone skipper and returned the favour with a few words of his own.

The incident took place late in the morning session on Day 4, with South Zone already eight wickets down and staring at defeat. Chasing East Zone's mammoth first-innings total of 708, South had crumbled to less than 330 for eight despite batting on a flat pitch.

As Tilak tried to mount a fight from one end, Vaibhav walked up to the batter, exchanged a few words with him and then calmly walked away.

The moment was reminiscent of what had happened on Day 1.

With East Zone's openers going berserk in the opening 10 overs of the final, Tilak had walked up to Vaibhav and appeared to exchange a few words with the young batter.

Four days later, Vaibhav got his chance to return the favour.

And there was perhaps a little more satisfaction to it given how the match had unfolded since that first exchange.

EAST ZONE BULLDOZE SOUTH

East Zone, led by Ishan Kishan, went on to pile up a massive 708 in their first innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, putting South Zone under enormous pressure.

South struggled to cope with East's pace attack, with Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar striking at regular intervals. Wickets continued to tumble despite the pitch remaining conducive to batting, leaving South eight down and still well short of East's first-innings total.

Tilak was among the few South batters to offer resistance, but the captain found himself fighting a losing battle as East moved closer to sealing the Duleep Trophy final.

On Day 1, Tilak had tried to put Vaibhav under pressure. By Day 4, with East firmly in control, the teenager had the perfect opportunity to give his India teammate counterpart a taste of his own medicine.
