A frightening on-field injury during an IPL 2026 clash in Delhi triggered a swift emergency response, with Delhi Traffic Police creating a green corridor that helped rush South African pacer Lungisani Ngidi to the hospital in just 11 minutes.

The incident unfolded during the high-voltage match between Delhi and Punjab on April 25 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, when Ngidi suffered a serious head injury while attempting a catch.

Ngidi had moved in to complete a catch after Punjab batter Priyansh Arya miscued a shot. Positioned in the deep, he struggled to judge the trajectory and, while adjusting, lost balance and fell heavily, hitting the back of his head on the turf.

The impact left him in visible discomfort. Players from both teams rushed towards him as medical staff sprinted onto the field.

Play was halted for around 15 minutes as doctors treated him, with the stadium falling silent amid growing concern.

A stretcher was brought in, and an ambulance entered the field. Ngidi was fitted with a neck brace before being carefully taken off.

11-MINUTE GREEN CORRIDOR

As the emergency unfolded, Delhi Traffic Police moved quickly to ensure there was no delay in treatment.

“Upon contacting the match organisers, it was learnt that the injured player needed urgent medical attention. ACP Traffic Sanjay Singh coordinated with the Police Control Room and directed the creation of a Green Corridor,” a senior officer said.

The ambulance carrying Ngidi was able to cut through peak-hour traffic and reach BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital in Rajendra Nagar in just 11 minutes.

PLAYER STABLE, RELIEF FOR TEAM

Ngidi was taken to the hospital after complaining of a headache and neck pain. Early updates brought relief, with information indicating that he is stable and likely to be discharged soon.

In his absence, Delhi Capitals brought in Vipraj Nigam as a concussion substitute for the remainder of the match.

HIGH-SCORING MATCH OVERSHADOWED

The injury came during an intense contest that had already seen a massive total posted. KL Rahul had carried his bat through the innings with an unbeaten 152, while Nitish Rana smashed 91 off 44 balls, helping Delhi pile up 264 for 2.

But the mood inside the stadium shifted sharply after Ngidi’s fall, with concern for the player overshadowing the action on the field.
