A 31-year-old software engineer was allegedly beaten to death by his in-laws at his Delhi home following a domestic dispute with his wife. The victim's family has accused his wife and six to seven others of carrying out the attack.

The victim, Vinay Gupta, was married to Rekha, a homemaker around three and a half years ago. The couple has twin children, a boy and a girl. Vinay was employed as a software engineer with Adobe in Noida and, according to his family, had an annual package of around Rs 60 lakh.

According to Vinay's mother, a dispute broke out between Vinay and Rekha over giving medicine to one of their children. Rekha became angry after Vinay spoke to her in a raised voice. Following the argument, she left the house and returned around 10 minutes later with members of her parental family.

The victim's family alleged that Rekha arrived with her two brothers, a sister-in-law, her father, an uncle and another person. The family members then assaulted Vinay inside the house.

Vinay's mother had gone to arrange water and refreshments for the visitors when the alleged assault began, the family claimed. Vinay had also reportedly brought water for his in-laws before they attacked him.

According to the family's allegations, the attackers beat Vinay repeatedly, strangled him and struck him on his chest with their hands and feet. His parents tried to intervene and save him, but the assault continued.

The family has alleged that the attack was pre-planned and that Rekha switched off the CCTV cameras at the house. CCTV footage reportedly shows Rekha wearing a red suit and her sister-in-law wearing a blue suit, while two of Rekha's brothers, her father and another man can allegedly be seen in a car outside the house.

After the assault, a neighbour was seen carrying Vinay outside on his shoulder. As Vinay was unable to stand on his feet, the neighbour reportedly helped him sit on a chair. He was subsequently taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Vinay's family also alleged that he had been given a separate space on the third floor of the house, where he lived with his parents, while his wife prepared food separately. The family claimed that Rekha frequently had arguments with Vinay's mother. They also alleged that one of Rekha's brothers had threatened to kill Vinay over minor disputes on several occasions.

The victim's father said the couple had been experiencing disputes over minor issues for some time and that the family had hoped to resolve the matter through discussion. However, the situation eventually escalated into violence.

The deceased’s family has alleged that Rekha and six to seven others were involved in the incident and accused them of conspiring to kill Vinay.

Police have arrested four accused persons in connection with the incident. Those arrested include Vinay's wife Rekha, her two brothers and another accused.

A forensic team also reached the spot and collected evidence from the scene. A case under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) is being registered in connection with the incident.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and the role of the accused persons.
