Apple has confirmed the date for its next major product event, and this year’s September launch is set to be an important one. The company will host its event on September 9 at 10:00 PT, where it is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro series alongside its first-ever foldable iPhone.
The event carries the tagline “Surprise and shine” and will be held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. Apple is likely to stream the launch through its website, YouTube and the Apple TV app. For viewers in India, the event will begin at 10:30pm IST on September 9.
iPhone 18 Pro and foldable iPhone expected
Apple is expected to unveil three new iPhones at the event - the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable model, which has been widely rumoured to be called the iPhone Ultra.
Unlike previous years, the regular iPhone 18 is not expected to arrive alongside the Pro models. Reports suggest Apple is changing its iPhone launch schedule, with the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air potentially arriving in spring 2027.
The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to retain a familiar design and similar display sizes. However, Apple could introduce several hardware upgrades, including a variable-aperture main camera and a smaller Dynamic Island. The phones are also expected to use Apple's C2 modem and the new A20 Pro chip, which is reportedly based on a 2nm manufacturing process.
The Pro models could also arrive in new colour options, including Dark Cherry, alongside black, silver and light blue. There are also expectations of higher prices, partly because of rising memory costs.
The foldable iPhone is likely to be the biggest attraction of the event. Rumours suggest a book-style design with a roughly 5.3-5.5-inch outer display and a 7.6-7.8-inch inner screen. When opened, the device is expected to offer a tablet-like experience.
To keep the foldable body thin, Apple is reportedly making some compromises. The phone could use Touch ID built into the power button instead of Face ID and may feature two rear cameras rather than a telephoto setup. A titanium frame and a display with a barely visible crease are also expected.
The foldable iPhone could become Apple's most expensive smartphone yet, with reports pointing to a starting price of around $1,999. Some configurations could cost as much as $2,500.
New Apple Watch and AirPods also expected
Apple is also likely to introduce the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The watches are unlikely to receive major design changes, with improvements instead focused on processors, battery life, fitness tracking and health features. A ceramic case option has also been rumoured for the Series 12.
The company could additionally unveil AirPods 5, including versions with and without active noise cancellation. There is also a possibility of new smart home products, although some of these devices may be saved for a later event.
Apple is expected to announce release dates for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate and other software updates during the event.
The September launch will also come shortly after a major leadership change at Apple. John Ternus is scheduled to become CEO on September 1, while Tim Cook will move into the role of executive chairman.
