Jailer 2 box office Day 1: Rajinikanth and Nelson unleash Rs 125 crore tsunami

Superstar Rajinikanth has delivered a thunderous start at the box office, with Jailer 2 collecting an estimated Rs 125.25 crore worldwide on its opening day. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial, which arrived in theatres on October 15 during Dussehra, earned Rs 59.70 crore India nett (gross minus taxes), while its overseas gross stood at Rs 55 crore, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.

The film's total India gross reached Rs 70.25 crore, taking its worldwide opening past the Rs 125-crore mark. The figures are early estimates and could differ with the official numbers by a small margin.

According to the estimates, Jailer 2 recorded an overall occupancy of 55.4 per cent across languages on its opening day. The Tamil version led the domestic collections, followed by Telugu and Hindi, while the Kannada version contributed a smaller share.

The Tamil version accounted for the biggest share of the film's domestic earnings, collecting Rs 43.35 crore nett. The Telugu version added Rs 12.50 crore, while the Hindi version brought in Rs 3.50 crore. The Kannada version collected Rs 35 lakh nett.

The film recorded 37,46,734 footfalls on Day 1.

Jailer 2 earned Rs 70.25 crore gross in India on its first day, with the overseas market contributing another Rs 55 crore. This took its worldwide gross to Rs 125.25 crore.

Tamil Nadu was the biggest contributor to the film's India gross, followed by Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana.

Tamil Nadu contributed Rs 24 crore gross, while Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana each added Rs 14.50 crore. Kerala contributed Rs 12.50 crore, with the remaining Indian markets accounting for Rs 4.75 crore.

With a worldwide gross of Rs 125.25 crore on its opening day, Jailer 2 has made a strong start. Its collections over the coming days will determine how well it sustains the opening-day momentum.

Jailer 2 is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who has also written the film, and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures. Rajinikanth reprises his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with the ensemble cast featuring Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan and Suraj Venjaramoodu.

Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff return to the franchise, while Hrithik Roshan makes a special appearance as Roddy. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music, Vijay Kartik Kannan has handled cinematography, and R Nirmal is the editor. The action entertainer released in theatres on October 15, 2026.
