  • Maruti Suzuki to raise car prices by up to Rs 30,000 from August
  • Second price hike in two months due to rising input costs
  • Middle East conflict affecting raw material and energy prices

Buying a new Maruti Suzuki car could become more expensive from next month. The country's largest carmaker has announced another price hike across its model range, saying it continues to face higher input costs and an unfavourable cost environment, reported Reuters.

SECOND PRICE HIKE IN TWO MONTHS

Maruti Suzuki said it will increase the prices of its vehicles by up to Rs 30,000 from August. This is the company's second portfolio-wide price revision in about two months.

Earlier, the carmaker had announced a similar price hike of up to Rs 30,000 from June. At that time, it had also offered price protection for some entry-level models.

WHY ARE PRICES GOING UP?

The company said inflationary pressures remain high and rising costs have made it necessary to pass on part of the burden to customers.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the renewed conflict in the Middle East has disrupted global trade routes and energy markets. This has pushed up the prices of key raw materials and other inputs used in vehicle manufacturing.

The company said it has tried to absorb a part of the increased costs but now has to pass on some of the additional expenses to the market.

Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki is not the only automaker to increase prices this year. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has also raised prices twice, while Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India have each announced one price hike.
