Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the company’s AI-powered suite, Apple Intelligence, will finally make its way to India starting in April, later this year. This is a big move in regard to Apple’s AI capabilities on its devices in the country, which were previously limited to a handful of features like the Clean Up tool. During Apple’s latest earnings call, Cook revealed that the rollout will include support for multiple languages, including localised English tailored for Indian users. This means iPhone, iPad, and Mac users in India will soon have access to AI-driven tools such as Writing Tools, Smart Reply, and ChatGPT integration.
Cook also highlighted Apple’s growing focus on India, which has become a key market for the Cupertino-based tech giant. He shared that the company achieved record iPhone sales in the country during the December quarter, with the iPhone emerging as the top-selling model for the period. India’s position as the world’s second-largest smartphone market and third-largest for PCs and tablets makes it a critical region for Apple’s growth. To further strengthen its presence, Apple has announced plans to open four new stores in the country, adding to its existing retail footprint.
The introduction of Apple Intelligence in India is part of a broader global expansion. Cook mentioned that the AI suite will also be made available in other languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese. Localised English versions will also be rolled out in Singapore alongside India.
Apple’s new CFO, Kevan Parekh, also emphasised the company’s strong performance in emerging markets, citing India as a prime example. He pointed to Zomato, a leading food delivery platform in India, which has deployed thousands of Macs across its workforce to drive innovation.
For the unaware, Apple Intelligence is only eligible for the iPhone 16 series and iPhone 15 Pro models. As mentioned above, the company's AI features aren't available for Indian users right now. However, to still access the AI features on your eligible iPhones, you need to change your default regional setting to one of the languages that support Apple Intelligence. To change your settings, go to Settings > General > Language & Region and select English (US) or any language that supports Apple Intelligence as your device’s primary language. This setting configures your device to recognise the language required for Apple Intelligence.
