The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) issued a heat wave alert for 58 mandals across the state on Wednesday.

Thirteen mandals in Srikakulam, eighteen mandals in Vizianagaram and fourteen mandals in Parvathipuram Manyam will be the most affected, said APSDMA Managing Director Ronanki Kurmanadh. Heat wave conditions are expected in three mandals in Alluri Sitaramaraju, two in Kakinada, seven in East Godavari, and one in Eluru district.

On Tuesday, Pedda Devalapuram in Nandyala district recorded the highest temperature at 42.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Ulindakonda in Kurnool at 42.6 degrees Celsius.

Other regions also saw soaring temperatures, with Khajipet in Kadapa seeing 41.8 degrees Celsius, Darimadugu in Prakasam seeing 41.5 degrees Celsius, and Nagasamudram in Anantapur and Wattalur in Annamayya district seeing 41 degrees Celsius each.

Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

In an advisory released earlier in March, APSDMA had said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted a gradual increase in temperature from March onwards, with heatwave conditions expected to intensify in April and May.
