Security cover for Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has been further strengthened amid ongoing protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, according to security sources.
Kumar already has Z+ security cover. However, the security forces have now augmented the existing arrangements following an assessment of the threat perception and the prevailing security situation.
The decision comes after protesters reached the CEC's Delhi residence and demonstrated outside his family home, prompting security agencies to review the arrangements around him.
ADDITIONAL SECURITY AT CEC'S RESIDENCE
As part of the enhanced security plan, additional personnel have been deployed at Kumar's residence in New Moti Bagh, New Delhi. A 24-hour police presence will also be maintained around the residence.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which provides security under the existing Z+ cover, has increased the deployment of additional reserve personnel. An order for increasing the reserve force was issued on October 7, sources said.
The additional reserve personnel have also been deployed at the Election Commission office and within the CEC's personal security detail.
SECURITY TIGHTENED AT EC OFFICE
Security arrangements at Nirvachan Sadan, the Election Commission headquarters, have also been increased.
Additional personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Delhi Police have been deployed alongside the CISF as part of the enhanced security arrangements.
Sources said the measures are precautionary and were taken after an assessment of the threat perception amid the ongoing protests over SIR.
