Captain Jasprit Bumrah gives verdict on Harshit and Nitish's debuts in Perth

AUS vs IND: Jasprit Bumrah gave his verdict on Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy's debut in Perth. He praised the performances of the young players and lauded India for the win.

India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah gave his verdict on the debutants' performance in the 1st Test against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. India registered a memorable win by 295 runs on Day 4 of the Test, making it their biggest Test victory in Australia. The stand-in captain hailed the performance of debutants Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy. He praised both the players for shining through under tough conditions and making a mark in their respective first outings in red-ball cricket.

"Very happy for them. The calm and composure that they had. And the ability and the faith on the ability. They played their first Test but did not get overhauled or nervous. They were taking responsibility and coming to me. When asked to do the tough job, they were ready to do the tough job. Very happy and positive sign," Bumrah said in a video posted by the BCCI on their social media.

Nitish unleashed his batting prowess with a quick-fire 41 and 38 in two innings. He also picked the wicket of Mitchell Marsh as his maiden international scalp. Harshit picked three wickets in the 1st innings with Travis Head being maiden Test wicket.

"Happy with India's win more than my fifer"

Bumrah reflected on India's win and said that still a lot of work needed to be done.

"Felt really good. We were put under a little bit of pressure. But the atmosphere in the team. They were not under pressure. We believed in our abilities, and we were confident in our bowling lineup. So yeah, we were able to do that. A very special team," he said.

Bumrah led his team from the front with a player of the match performance. However, the speedster said that he was happy with the team's win more than his personal milestone.

"More than the fifer, I am very happy with the win, because playing with the new side. Everybody was really confident of their ability. We always walk the talk. Really proud of the team and hopefully we can build on strength to strength from here."

"Yes, happy with the beginning, but still a lot of work needs to be done. Good. Take the positives. Yes, you learn from losses, but learn from wins. Take confidence from this and move on," he added.
