Ramesh Yadav’s day had been filled with congratulations and celebrations following his political elevation. After assuming charge as the Uttar Pradesh BJP’s Backward Classes Morcha state secretary in Lucknow on Monday, Yadav returned to his farmhouse near Kanpur, expecting to unwind after a hectic day.

But the night took a disturbing turn when two masked men stormed the property, tied him up and fled with cash and jewellery. The robbery took place between 10.30 pm and 11 pm at Yadav’s farmhouse in Kanpur.

According to the complaint, the two men entered the property after Yadav returned from Lucknow, tied his hands and legs, and fled with cash and valuables kept inside the house.

Senior police officers reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and a case was registered.

Joint Police Commissioner Vipin Tanda said Yadav’s complaint mentioned Rs 12 lakh in cash. DCP South Dipendra Chaudhary added that a bracelet, a chain and a watch were also reported stolen.

Police have detained two people for questioning as part of the investigation. The incident has also raised questions about security arrangements at the farmhouse, including the whereabouts of personnel assigned to protect Yadav.

According to a PTI report, around 14 people, including four security guards, four gunmen and a driver, have reportedly been rounded up for questioning.

At the time of the robbery, Yadav’s government-provided gunmen were reportedly in a building opposite the farmhouse. DCP Chaudhary said police were examining where the security personnel were when the robbery took place.

Police have formed several teams to investigate the robbery and are checking CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused. Investigators are also looking into how many people were staying at the farmhouse.
