Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja sole winners in Indian Test stars' Ranji Trophy return

Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are the only two players to have finished on the winning side on their return to the first-class tournament. Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill ended up on the losing side.

Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are the only Indian stars who have finished on the winning side on their Ranji Trophy return. On Saturday, February 1, Delhi beat Railways by an innings and 19 runs in their group match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Kohli, however, did not have the best of times from the personal viewpoint after fast bowler Himanshu Sangwan dismissed him for only six in the first innings.

Jadeja, on the other hand, was on the winning Saurashtra team that defeated Delhi and Assam. He scored 57 runs at an average of 28.50 across both games, but it was his spells against Delhi that grabbed the limelight. Jadeja took a five-wicket haul and followed it up with a seven-wicket haul, helping Saurashtra beat Delhi by 10 wickets at the Niranjan Shah Stadium C in Rajkot.

Rishabh Pant had a torrid time on his Ranji Trophy return after he failed against Saurashtra in Rajkot. He got out to Dharmendrasinh Jadeja for 1 in the first innings, following which Ravindra Jadeja dismissed him for 17 in the second. Rohit Sharma looked promising in his 28-run knock in the second innings of the match against Jammu & Kashmir, but Mumbai lost by five wickets.

Shubman Gill failed in the first innings against Karnataka, but made amends with a 102-run knock in the second innings. His efforts, however, went in vain as Punjab lost to Karnataka by an innings and 207 runs. KL Rahul got scores of 26 and 43 for Karnataka against Haryana at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and would be hoping to finish on the winning side.
