by India Today Auto Desk · India TodayMahindra & Mahindra today launched its ground-up battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the Mahindra BE 6e and the Mahindra XEV 9e, in India. Based on the electric-only INGLO platform, the two SUVs will be available for bookings in the latter part of January 2025, while their deliveries will commence from the end of February 2025.
While the base variant of the BE 6e having pack one is priced at Rs 18.90 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), the entry-level XEV 9e with pack one is priced at Rs 21.90 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). Pack one will have the least number of features in both electric SUVs.
Mahindra said that the indicative on-road price for the base BE 6e variant will be around Rs 20.36 lakh in Chennai. For the entry-level XEV 9e variant, the indicative on-road price will be nearly Rs 23.59 lakh in Chennai.
The BE 6e measures 4,371mm in length with an overall ground clearance of 207mm and battery ground clearance of 218mm. On the other hand, the XEV 9e is 4,789mm long. The overall ground clearance and battery ground clearance are 207mm and 222mm, respectively.
The bigger XEV 9e has a 663-litre boot and a 150-litre frunk. The smaller BE 6e has a boot that can hold 455 litres of cargo, while its frunk has 45 litres of space.
The electric SUVs have a 3-in-1 powertrain (motor + inverter + transmission) with the motor delivering a maximum of 210kW and 380Nm in its highest spec. While the XEV 9e can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 6.8 seconds, the BE 6e does marginally better at 6.7 seconds. There are three drive modes - Range, Everyday and Race.
Mahindra is offering the BE 6e and the XEV 9e with two battery packs — 59kWh and 79kWh. Mahindra has applied for 35 patents for these battery packs, which have LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry.
Both battery packs have gone through multiple safety tests, including crush test (20 tons), water immersion test (30 minutes), vibration test and fire resistance test (3 minutes). There is also a lifetime battery warranty for the first registered owner.
The ARAI-certified range (MIDC phase 1 + 2) is claimed to be 682km for the BE 6e and 656km for the XEV 9e with 79kWh battery pack. Mahindra claimed a range of more than 500km for the electric SUVs having 79kWh battery pack in metro cities with AC turned on. The battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in merely 20 minutes with a 175kW DC fast charger.
The BE 6e features a twin-screen set-up with a two-spoke steering wheel having an illuminated logo. The XEV 9e gets a triple-screen set-up with a two-spoke steering wheel having an illuminated logo.
The electric SUVs have ADAS Level 2+ with five radars and one vision system. They also feature a Secure 360 safety system with five cameras. Additionally, AutoPark feature offers more than 200 parking options.
With Mahindra Sonic Studio Experience, you get a 16-speaker and 15-channel amplifier Harman Kardon sound system in the XEV 9e. Also, the XEV 9e has Dolby Atmos for an enhanced sound experience.
The Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture (MAIA) assimilates drive assist technologies, connected car technologies, cyber security, in-cab experience (audio, lighting and monitoring), HD streaming and multi-displays, and advanced neural engine.
Both electric SUVs get seven airbags. Mahindra claimed that the BE 6e and the XEV 9e are capable of scoring a five-star safety rating.
