The retention list of teams had several surprising calls, with captains Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul being let go from their respective franchises. Apart from the batting duo, Rishabh Pant also opted to enter the auction arena and parted ways with Delhi Capitals after 9 long seasons.

There were some similar trends as Punjab Kings once again opted to reset their entire side, only retaining Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh as their uncapped Indian stars. With the new retention rules, here's a look at how much purse is left with each franchise going into the 2025 auction.

RETENTION SLABS

The Indian Premier League finally made its retention slabs official on Thursday. According to the rules, the new retention slabs were set at Rs 18 crore, Rs 14 crore, Rs 11 crore, Rs 18 crore, Rs 14 crore, Rs 11 crore, and Rs 4 crore for the uncapped Indian player.

Now minus the uncapped retention - this comes up to exactly Rs 75 crore.

However, these retention slabs were not set in stone. It was revealed that in case the team were able to retain players below the slabs, for 5 retentions - they would still have to pay Rs 75 crore. However, if they were to go over Rs 75 crore, they would have to pay that extra cash.

For example - KKR paid 49 crore for their top 4 capped players - but they still had to shell out Rs 61 crore (18 + 14 + 11 + 18) from their auction purse.

Due to this particular dynamics, a lot of teams moved around their budget for each player to fit that Rs 75 core mark, for their top 5 players.

Going into the auction, Punjab Kings have the biggest purse at Rs 110.5 crore, while Rajasthan Royals have the smallest one - only Rs 41 crore after retaining 6 players in the side.

On that note, here's the total purse left for each franchise after the official retention list.
