Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said those behind the firing incident targeting actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai would be tracked down and arrested, even if they were operating from outside the state or abroad. He said the Mumbai Police had obtained crucial clues and identified certain suspects, who would be arrested soon.
“This is a very serious and condemnable matter. The Mumbai Police have taken it with the utmost seriousness. They have obtained certain clues, based on which they are currently working, and specific individuals have already been identified. These people will be arrested very soon,” Fadnavis said in Nagpur.
He added that the state government would coordinate with other states and seek the Centre's assistance to track down those operating from outside India.
Calling the attackers “cowardly individuals”, he added: “They attempt to strike from the shadows, but their efforts will be thwarted.”
Fadnavis also said he had spoken to Shroff after the incident and assured him that the government would ensure his safety. “I have assured Tiger Shroff that he need not worry. We will track down those responsible for this, and we will ensure (his) complete safety; that is what we told him,” he said.
15 TEAMS FORMED TO TRACE ASSAILANTS
The 36-year-old actor escaped unhurt after gunmen opened fire at his car in Mumbai's Juhu area on Sunday evening. A video circulating on social media showed a person firing at the vehicle.
Shroff's driver, identified as Firdaus, and an autorickshaw driver, identified only as Chauhan, were injured in the incident and taken for medical treatment, police said. A video clip showed Shroff getting behind the wheel and driving away quickly.
Mumbai Police have formed 15 teams, including personnel from the Crime Branch and local police, to investigate the case and trace the assailants. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the number and identities of those involved.
A forensic team also visited the spot to collect ballistic evidence, inspect the vehicle and determine the exact number of rounds fired.
The incident took place near Pushpa Park, within the Juhu police station limits. Police are examining the sequence of events and other evidence gathered during the investigation.
Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, spoke to Shroff on Sunday and assured him that the accused would be traced soon. According to the Chief Minister's Office, he also sought details from Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti and directed him to expedite the investigation and take strict action against those responsible.
The Opposition has criticised the state government over the incident, alleging that Fadnavis has failed to maintain law and order in the state.
