Minor couple stopped, harassed, girl molested in Bihar; horror video goes viral

A minor boy and a girl, both Class 10 students at a local school in Bihar’s Jamui city, were molested and harassed by a group of men while returning from their coaching class on Saturday evening. The group stopped their scooter, abused them, forced them to get off and chased them when they tried to escape.

The two had gone to the popular Madwa Pahad, a hill destination in the city. While returning, a group of men spotted them, made them stop the scooter and began assaulting them. A member of the group captured the assault on video, which was later circulated on social media, sparking outrage.

The video shows one of the men grabbing the collar of the boy’s shirt and trying to pull him towards himself. The boy, with the girl’s help, managed to free himself, after which the two tried to run away. The group then chased them.

At one point, another man grabbed the girl by the neck and lifted her off the ground, holding her from underneath. The boy immediately ran towards her and intervened, preventing the man from taking her away. During the scuffle, one of the men also pushed her breast with his hand.

The harassment continued as the two tried to flee the spot. When they attempted to leave on their scooter, with the girl seated on the back, one of the men was seen pulling her by the hand. Another member of the group continued recording the incident on his phone.

The group also forced the two minors to apologise. At one point, the girl can be heard pleading, “Please let us go, we promise that we will never come back here again.” The group eventually allowed them to leave.

After the video went viral on social media, police took cognisance of the matter and began an investigation. According to the latest information available, the local police have arrested three people in connection with the case.

The development came after the police spoke with both minors and gathered information about the people who harassed them. Presently, they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and examining other details related to the viral video. The search for the other accused is underway.

ACCUSED SHOULD BE PROSECUTED UNDER POCSO ACT, SAYS RAHUL GANDHI

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi condemned the incident and said that all the accused should be prosecuted under the POCSO Act.

"The video from Jamui, Bihar, is deeply disturbing. Two Class 10 students were stopped on a road. Harassed. Humiliated. Molested. A young girl, hands folded, begged to be let go while goons groped her and dragged her away," he said.

"Who gave these men the right to behave like this? This is not "culture." It is patriarchy: the belief that any man can police a girl's body, her movement, her choices. Every individual in that video must be identified and prosecuted under POCSO, and justice must be swift," he also added.

He also criticised the NDA government for failing to make any arrests two days after the incident.

"And if the incident happened on September 19th, why are the culprits not behind bars yet? And the Bihar government must answer why a girl is not safe on a public road at 7 pm? He wrote.

CONGRESS TARGETS BJP OVER VIOLATION OF LAW-AND-ORDER

The attack on the minors soon snowballed into a major political flashpoint, with the Congress targeting Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and the BJP over their alleged failure to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of girls in the state.

Calling the incident an instance of Bihar's 'jungleraaj', Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed said, 'In the name of so-called moral policing, this couple was harassed, and the girl was molested. It is clearly visible in the video that those men attempted to gang-rape her and molested her. This is the picture of the real Jungleraaj of the BJP and 7th-pass Samrat Choudhary."

She also demanded strict punishment against the accused.
