Suryakumar spoke about the possible combinations of the Indian team when being asked about Sanju Samson's spot in the Indian T20I team. Samson has hit 3 hundreds from his last 5 T20I matches. The batter has opened the innings in the absence of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the registered openers of the Indian T20I team.

With Samson's incredible run of form, questions have been raised on what the Indian team's combination will be once the duo return to the T20I fold. The India captain addressed the issue and said that there was a lot of time left to ponder on the combinations before the big tournaments like T20 World Cup - set to be held in 2026.

"Even before the World Cup, we played a few T20 tournaments and we spoke about what type of cricket we want to play going forward. We play for different franchises in the IPL but when we come together, I think we wanted to do the same thing what we do for our franchise," Suryakumar said about the team's series win in South Africa.

Given his form, would Samson continue to open for India in the T20I format? Yadav said that it was for the selection committee and the BCCI to decide.

"I have not thought about that far away. I like to live in the moment, enjoying the series win right now. When we sit down with the coaches, it will be difficult but it is a good headache to have. If you have 20-25 people and you have to make a team of 10-15 players, it is going to be a challenge, but thankfully I have the BCCI and the selectors for that headache," Suryakumar Yadav further added.

India will next play a T20I match in 2025 - against England, in the run-up to the Champions Trophy.
