Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma roared back into form with a 33-ball fifty against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, April 20. Rohit took on the fast bowlers early in the innings to get MI off to a sensational start in the 177-run chase against MS Dhoni side.
Playing at the Wankhede Stadium, Rohit brought out his trademark pull shots against CSK pacers to provide a terrific base for MI's win on Sunday. Rohit slowed down outside of the powerplay, due to the presence of Suryakumar Yadav who took on the CSK spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. Rohit completed his fifty in 33 balls which included 2 fours and 4 sixes.
This was Rohit's first fifty in what had been an awful season for him. Rohit chose the CSK game to return in form, a team that he had scored a hundred last season, albeit in a losing cause. Before this game, Rohit's best innings was 26 vs SRH, which came in the previous game.
Rohit looked the most fluent with the bat in the CSK game. Before this, he had scores of 0,8,13,17,18 and 26 this season.
The Mumbai crowd chanted 'Mumbai cha raja, Rohit Sharma' upon the batter's arrival at the crease. They let out a roar once again when Rohit reached his fifty in the 12th over of the game. Rohit's innings was the biggest positive for Mumbai Indians from the Chennai game. With Rohit returning to form, the franchise finally has two in-form and aggressive batters at the top of the innings.
