Shocking twists have emerged in the murder of former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, who was found dead at his residence in Bengaluru. His wife, Pallavi, reportedly called the police control room 112, after the incident and confessed to committing the murder.
Om Prakash, was found dead with stab wounds at his residence in HSR Layout, Bengaluru on Sunday evening.
According to sources in the police, Pallavi admitted over the phone, “I was the one who committed the murder.” She and the couple’s daughter, Kriti, were taken into custody by the police, but the son, Karthikesh, was not at home at the time of the incident. Karthikesh, according to the FIR, returned to find his father lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor of the house.
In a complaint registered at the HSR Layout Police Station, Karthikesh refrained from directly accusing his mother or sister, stating that he discovered his father’s body upon reaching home.
However, in a formal complaint summary filed on April 20, 2025, Karthikesh alleged that his mother had been threatening to kill his father for the past week. Due to these threats, Om Prakash had temporarily moved to his sister Saritha Kumari’s house. Two days prior to the incident, Kriti reportedly visited Saritha’s residence and pressured Om Prakash to return home, allegedly bringing him back against his will.
On the day of the murder, Karthikesh stated he was at the Karnataka Golf Association in Domlur when their neighbour, Jayashree Sridharan, called him around 5 pm to inform him that his father was found lying downstairs. By the time he reached home at 5.45 pm, the police and members of the public had already gathered.
The FIR stated that Om Prakash was found in a pool of blood, with visible injuries to his head and body. A broken bottle and a knife were discovered near his body. He was rushed to St John’s Hospital.
The FIR also stated that Karthikesh said both his mother and sister were suffering from depression and frequently fought with his father. “I strongly suspect that they are involved in the murder of my father,” Karthikesh said in the FIR and requested legal action.
Police probing the case said that Pallavi threw chilli powder on his face before stabbing him to death. “After a heated exchange of words, Pallavi threw chili powder on Prakash’s face,” a source in the police department claimed. As the ex-top cop attempted to rid himself of the burning, Pallavi reportedly stabbed him several times with a knife, the source said.
She then made a video call to her friend and reportedly said, “I have killed the monster.”
News agency PTI reported that the murder followed ongoing disputes between the couple, including a property row over land in Dandeli, Karnataka. A few months earlier, Pallavi reportedly approached HSR Layout police to file a complaint about the land, the news agency reported, though details of the complaint remain unclear.
Meanwhile a VIP security inspector, Srinivas, described the killing as “a very brutal manner” of murder. Srinivas said he had a conversation with Om Prakash on the day of the murder when the deceased had called him at 3.05 pm. “He spoke very calmly and clearly,” Srinivas said, adding that when he offered to go visit their home, Om Prakash said, “No, don’t come .. . madam is at home.”
“We still don’t know the motive behind the killing. It appears to be a premeditated act. He was stabbed twice in the neck. He was also stabbed on the head. He was murdered cruelly while he was still breathing,” Srinivas said.
Srinivas called Om Prakash a “good officer” and added that the retired DGP had been mentally distressed. “Madam never allowed anyone near the house. I’m not aware of much about their family matters. He seemed mentally distressed. He told me he was spending lakhs of rupees on her treatment. He couldn’t meet or interact with anyone. He was fed up with his wife’s behaviour.”
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, responding to media queries, said, “DGP was murdered, they say it was from own wife. But investigation is on.”
