Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar have reunited for the horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, released in theatres on April 17, 2026 and its paid previews began on April 16 from 9 pm onwards. Early reviews on social media have been divided. While a section of users appreciated the humour elements, some viewers were disappointed with the writing.

While sharing Bhooth Bangla review, an X user wrote, "The Priyadarshan x Akshay Kumar reunion in #BhoothBangla is PURE MADNESS! Seeing the OG legends Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, & Asrani back together is a nostalgic fever dream. It’s that classic, chaotic comedy magic we’ve been craving. 10/10 for the laughs!" while another one lauded Akshay Kumar’s comic timing and added, “Akshay Kumar is absolutely amazing in this film his comic timing is top-notch and gives pure nostalgic vibes. Every punchline hits, every dialogue lands perfectly. The VFX are super impressive, blend with movie (sic)."

Another user praised the film but expressed disappointment with the writing. The post read, "Finished watching #BhootBangla. While first half is vintage Priyadarshan masterclass with all the OG starcast second half is exactly like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, 3 and Stree 2, the second half without the iconic Mere Dholna tune with one major flaw in writing as it has been written by the same writer who wrote Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3. Although it does have it's share of edge of the seat moments and does keep you hooked till the end (sic)."

An X user, despite appreciating the backstory, was not very impressed by the comic elements. He wrote, "#BhootBanglaReview Interval.... the backstory of Vadhushur is actually interesting, comedy is hit and miss. #BhootBangla (sic)."

A user, while praising the comedy on X, wrote, "Honestly the hope was not too much but ohh God, comedy is back. Be ready to get jump scared and a laugh riot. A perfect horror comedy (sic)."

The film's ensemble cast includes actors Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, the late Asrani, Paresh Rawal and others.

Akshay has co-produced the film with Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor.
