Volkswagen has officially unveiled the ID. Polo, marking the arrival of the electric version of one of its most iconic hatchbacks. Built on the brand’s updated MEB+ platform, the ID. Polo signals a major shift as the long-running Polo nameplate transitions into the EV era. Pre-sales have already commenced in select European markets, with introductory prices starting from under €25,000 (approximately Rs 27.7 lakh).

A familiar name, reimagined for the electric age

With over 20 million units sold globally, the Polo has been one of Volkswagen’s most successful models. The new ID. Polo retains its mass-market appeal but introduces a fresh identity through the brand’s new ‘Pure Positive’ design language. Clean surfaces, balanced proportions and modern lighting elements define its look, while subtle cues—like the C-pillar inspired by the original Golf—add a sense of heritage.

Measuring 4,053mm in length with a 2,600mm wheelbase, the ID. Polo offers improved interior space over its ICE predecessor. Boot capacity stands at 441 litres, expandable to over 1,240 litres, making it more versatile than before.

Minimalist cabin with advanced tech

Inside, the ID. Polo adopts a clean, tech-forward layout. A 13-inch freestanding infotainment touchscreen takes centre stage, paired with a 10-inch digital driver’s display. Physical controls for key functions remain, addressing usability concerns seen in earlier ID models.

Features include wireless smartphone connectivity, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control and a rear-view camera. Higher trims and optional packages bring premium touches such as a Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic glass roof and 12-way powered seats with massage and memory functions.

Volkswagen has also introduced segment-first technologies like Connected Travel Assist with traffic light recognition, alongside one-pedal driving and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability.

Two battery options, multiple outputs

The ID. Polo will be offered with two battery configurations. The entry-level 37kWh pack (LFP) is available in 116bhp and 135bhp states of tune, delivering a claimed range of up to 329km. It supports DC fast charging up to 90kW, enabling a 10–80 percent charge in around 23 minutes.

The larger 52kWh NMC battery powers a 211bhp front-mounted motor, offering a WLTP-claimed range of up to 454km. This version supports faster 105kW DC charging, achieving a 10–80 percent charge in roughly 24 minutes. A performance-oriented GTI variant producing 226bhp has also been confirmed.

Broad variant lineup and positioning

Globally, the ID. Polo will be offered in multiple trims, including Trend, Life and Style, each bringing a progressive increase in features and technology. The range will expand further with additional powertrains and equipment lines expected later in the year.
