A 27-year-old female postgraduate medical student was found dead inside a hotel room in Hyderabad on Friday, October 2. The woman has been identified as Komati Srijana, a native of Telangana's Sangareddy district.

She was pursuing her PG in paediatrics at a medical college in the Hanamkonda district. According to the police, Srijana's family approached the police after they were unable to contact her.

Subsequently, her mobile phone location was traced to a hotel in Hyderabad's Miyapur area, where police found her body in a decomposed state on the bed in one of the rooms.

Police said Srijana had arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday, September 30, after reportedly being called by a male friend to discuss the return of a gold chain.

Investigators found that she had joined her friend at the hotel on the same day, an official, cited by news agency PTI, said.

The man allegedly checked out of the hotel on Thursday, October 1, and has since been untraceable. Srijana's father, K Bhumayya, lodged a complaint alleging that his daughter was murdered.

Based on the complaint, the police in Hyderabad registered a case of murder. Police said there were no obvious external injury marks during the preliminary examination.

The body was sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police are searching for Srijana's friend and examining CCTV footage and other evidence to establish the sequence of events leading to her death.

The medical student had known the man since she was pursuing her MBBS in Mahabubnagar district, police said.
