Four rounds were fired at actor Tiger Shroff’s BMW in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening as he was leaving after playing a football match, triggering a major police investigation and fresh questions over law and order in Maharashtra. While Tiger escaped unhurt, his driver and another man were injured, and police detained one person for questioning as they pursued the attackers.
Preliminary information suggests that three men arrived on a motorcycle, with two appearing to open fire while the third waited on the bike to facilitate their escape. A video that surfaced after the incident showed one of the shooters apparently firing multiple rounds, while another also appeared to attempt firing. The men were subsequently seen fleeing on the motorcycle.
A separate video captured the chaotic moments after the shooting, including Tiger moving into the driver’s seat of his grey car and driving away. The footage also recorded a woman’s distressed reaction as people tried to understand what had happened.
Meanwhile, a social media post attributed to gangsters Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu, who are reportedly based abroad, claimed responsibility for the attack in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi group. The alleged gang link and the authenticity of the post have not been confirmed by police.
Mumbai Police have deployed multiple teams to identify the attackers, examine the evidence and establish the motive behind the firing. The incident has also prompted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to assure the actor of government support, while Opposition leaders have questioned the state’s handling of law and order.
Here is everything we know so far about the firing, the injured, the alleged gang claim, the police investigation and the political fallout.
WHAT HAPPENED TO TIGER SHROFF?
The firing took place at around 7 pm on Sunday in Mumbai’s Juhu area, near Pushpa Park, under the jurisdiction of Juhu police station. According to police, Tiger was leaving after a private event when unidentified men opened fire at his vehicle.
The actor had been playing a football match before the incident and was returning home. Film producer Bunty Walia was also present at the ground and had been playing with Tiger. Actor Abhishek Bajaj was reportedly present at the playground as well.
According to police sources, three rounds were fired at Tiger’s BMW. Other reports put the number of shots at three to four.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said Tiger had not sustained any bullet injuries and was safe.
“The incident took place around 7 o’clock. Some unknown individuals arrived at the scene and opened fire on Mr Tiger Shroff as he was leaving after concluding a private event,” Garg said.
He added that the police were examining all aspects of the incident and would share further information as it became available.
THREE MEN ARRIVED ON A MOTORCYCLE
Preliminary information and available visuals suggest that three men arrived at the spot on a motorcycle.
One of the men appears to fire multiple rounds at the vehicle. A second man also appears to attempt firing, although it is unclear from the visuals whether his weapon discharged. The third man appears to remain on the motorcycle, ready to help the group escape.
The three men are subsequently seen fleeing on the bike.
Tiger was reportedly seated on the side of the vehicle from which the shots were fired. Visuals appear to show him shifting towards the driver’s seat after the incident.
The footage provides investigators with potential leads about the attackers’ movements and the sequence of events. Their identities, however, have not been officially confirmed in the information available so far.
NEW VIDEO SHOWS TIGER DRIVING AWAY AFTER FIRING
A video recorded by fan and vlogger Salma Sheikh captured the commotion around Tiger’s car after the shooting.
Although the gunshots are not visually shown, they can be heard in the background. Sheikh turns her camera towards the disturbance and is heard reacting with alarm.
“Tiger beta par goli chala di,” she says, meaning that shots have been fired at Tiger.
The footage captures the panic and confusion among people at the scene. One of the key moments shows Tiger getting into the driver’s seat of his grey car and driving away.
Blood is visible around the vehicle and on the road in the footage, although the video alone does not establish whose blood it is. Police have separately confirmed that two people were injured in the incident.
The video is among the material that may help establish what happened immediately after the firing.
WHO WAS INJURED IN THE FIRING?
Tiger escaped the shooting without any gunshot injuries, but two other people were injured, according to DCP Mohit Garg.
One was the actor’s driver, identified in police updates as Firdaus or Firdosh, who sustained an injury to his hand. He was admitted to hospital for treatment and was reported to be out of danger.
The second injured person was identified as Chauhan. He was also receiving medical treatment.
A hospital update circulated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said a 35-year-old man arrived at Cooper Hospital’s casualty department at 7.10 pm. He had a reported gunshot wound sustained around 6.30 pm in Vile Parle West while covering a football match featuring Tiger Shroff. The update described an entry wound about 2 cm below the left nipple and said the patient was in stable condition.
The available information does not conclusively establish whether this hospital record refers to Chauhan, the second injured man mentioned by the police.
The police have not reported any bullet injury to Tiger himself.
ONE PERSON DETAINED FOR QUESTIONING
Mumbai Police have detained one person for questioning in connection with the firing. The person was picked up from the Santacruz area, police said.
The detention is part of the investigation and does not, by itself, establish the person’s involvement in the attack.
Police have cordoned off the area and are examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting. DCP Mohit Garg said a forensic team had conducted a preliminary analysis and that several police teams were involved in the investigation.
Early updates said 12 teams had been formed to track down those responsible. A subsequent police update put the number of teams at 15.
Investigators are working to identify the men seen arriving on the motorcycle, trace their movements and establish who planned the attack. The motive and the identities of the people who opened fire have not been officially confirmed.
WHO CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY?
A social media post attributed to gangsters Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu claimed responsibility for the firing at Tiger Shroff’s vehicle in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi group.
The post has brought the alleged involvement of the Bishnoi network under scrutiny. However, Mumbai Police have not confirmed the authenticity of the post or established that the group was responsible for the attack.
Pandit is reportedly based in the United States and is originally from Haryana. He has been described in reports as operating a network linked to the Bishnoi gang from abroad, including from the US and, at times, Canada. He has also been linked in reports to several extortion and firing cases in Delhi and elsewhere.
Harman Sandhu is also reportedly based abroad.
These reported links and the social media claim remain allegations, not confirmation of who ordered or carried out the firing.
Reports have also suggested that the alleged attackers cited Tiger’s closeness to actor Salman Khan as a reason for targeting him. That claim, too, has not been independently established by the police.
Investigators will need to establish whether the post was genuine, whether the people named in it had any role in the incident and whether the firing was connected to a wider criminal network.
WHY HAS THE BISHNOI GANG BEEN UNDER SCRUTINY?
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has been named in several high-profile cases involving threats and shootings in Maharashtra.
These include the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique in October 2024 and the firing outside Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence in April 2024. The alleged responsibility claim in the Tiger Shroff case has renewed questions about whether criminal networks operating from outside India are attempting to intimidate prominent figures in Mumbai.
However, the circumstances of the cases are different, and the alleged connection between the Tiger Shroff firing and the Bishnoi group remains unverified.
The investigation into Sunday’s incident is expected to establish whether the attackers acted on behalf of a gang, whether the attack was linked to a threat against the actor or whether another motive was involved.
TIGER SHROFF’S TEAM CONFIRMS HE IS SAFE
Following reports of the firing, India Today contacted the team of Tiger’s father, actor Jackie Shroff, to check on the actor’s condition.
Jackie Shroff’s team confirmed that Tiger was safe, saying, “Tiger is okay. Thank you so much.”
Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar also spoke to Tiger’s family following the incident.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said he had spoken to both Tiger and Jackie Shroff and assured them that the government stood with the family.
“I told Tiger not to worry, the government is with him; there is no need for concern,” Shinde said, adding that the government would review security arrangements for celebrities.
He also condemned the attack and said those responsible would be tracked down.
“No gang will be spared; we will not let them get away with this,” he said, adding that the safety of ordinary citizens and celebrities was the responsibility of the police and the government.
WHAT DID DEVENDRA FADNAVIS SAY?
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to Mumbai Police Commissioner over the firing and sought details of the incident. He directed the commissioner to ensure an immediate investigation and strict action against those responsible.
Fadnavis also spoke to Tiger Shroff over the phone and assured him that the government was with him and that the accused would be apprehended soon.
The assurances came as the police intensified their investigation and attempted to identify the attackers.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal also condemned the incident, calling it deeply saddening and expressing confidence that the police would take the necessary action and arrest the accused.
EKNATh SHINDE RECALLS MUMBAI’S 1990s GANG WARS
Shinde invoked Mumbai’s crackdown on gang wars in the 1990s while warning criminal groups against attempting to spread fear in the city.
He said Mumbai Police had tackled gangs during that period and would take firm action again if anyone attempted to threaten citizens or celebrities.
Shinde said he had spoken to the police commissioner and that several teams had been formed to track down those who opened fire at Tiger’s vehicle.
He added that the government would examine security arrangements for celebrities and would not tolerate attempts to intimidate people.
The Deputy Chief Minister also referred to the firing outside Salman Khan’s residence and the killing of Baba Siddique while discussing the broader concern over criminal activity in Mumbai. He questioned why such incidents continued despite alleged gang members being in custody.
The investigation into the Tiger Shroff firing, however, remains ongoing, and the police have yet to confirm who was behind the attack.
OPPOSITION ATTACKS MAHARASHTRA GOVERNMENT OVER LAW AND ORDER
The firing prompted Opposition leaders to criticise the Maharashtra government, with Congress and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leaders questioning whether the state was doing enough to control criminal activity.
Congress leader Sachin Sawant accused the government of failing to maintain law and order. In a post on X, he referred to the murder of Baba Siddique, the firing outside Salman Khan’s residence and threats to actors and film producers.
Sawant said Mumbai appeared to be in the grip of chaos and criticised Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio.
Mumbai Congress president Varsha Gaikwad questioned whether the police continued to command the same authority and respect as before. She renewed the Congress’s demand for Maharashtra to have a separate home minister.
“If actors and political leaders are not safe, what can we say about the safety of ordinary citizens?” she asked.
NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar also criticised the situation, pointing to the firing incident involving Tiger’s vehicle and other recent episodes of violence, including the firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu.
Pawar said such incidents in Mumbai, the country’s financial capital, could undermine investor confidence. He also referred to the recent killing of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Pradeep Purnekar in Thane and argued that the Home portfolio should be given to a competent minister if the situation had become difficult to handle.
The Opposition’s criticism has added a political dimension to the case, with questions being raised about the state government’s ability to prevent shootings and
