A 17-year-old teenager was arrested by the Crime Branch in connection with the murder of a doctor in Delhi's Kalindi Kunj area on Thursday. Dr Javed Akhtar, a 55-year-old practitioner of Unani Medicine, was shot dead inside a nursing home. The arrest was made after the minor who shot the doctor, posted a photo on social media with the caption, "Committed a murder in 2024", shortly after the crime.

The incident occurred in the early hours of October 3, when two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, entered Nima Hospital in Delhi’s Jaitpur area around 1:30 am, pretending to seek treatment. One of the boys asked the staff to change the dressing on his injured toe. Moments later, they shot Dr Akhtar at point-blank range.

According to police sources, the motive behind the killing appears to be a grievance over treatment fees. The arrested minor allegedly confessed that they killed the doctor because they believed he had overcharged them for medical treatment.

While one of the accused has been taken into custody, police are still searching for the second boy, aged 16, who was involved in the shooting. Authorities are also investigating the possible role of a nurse at the nursing home and her husband in the incident.
