Yash's Toxic crosses Rs 27 crore in advance bookings, 4 lakh tickets sold

Yash's Toxic has crossed Rs 27 crore in domestic advance bookings ahead of its August 26 release. Karnataka is leading demand, with Kannada 2D driving pre-sales as trade watches for a late surge.

Yash's Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is heading into its August 26 theatrical release with the kind of pre-release momentum that puts the opening day firmly under the trade spotlight. After the blockbuster run of KGF: Chapter 2, the film marks Yash's return to cinemas, while its long and often delayed journey to the big screen has only added to the anticipation around its opening. With advance sales gathering pace across markets, the question now is whether the Geetu Mohandas directorial can translate its pre-release demand into a strong opening at the box office.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Toxic has crossed Rs 27 crore in domestic advance bookings, including blocked seats. More than 4 lakh tickets have been sold across India in five languages. Excluding blocked seats, the film's advance gross stands at over Rs 18 crore. The Kannada 2D version accounts for the overwhelming share of the pre-sales, followed by Hindi 2D and Hindi IMAX 2D.

The numbers assume greater significance given the scale of Toxic as a pan-India release. Yash's star power remains strongest in Karnataka, but the advance figures show the film building a footprint beyond its home market. Karnataka has contributed Rs 14.2 crore to the advance booking total, including blocked seats. Maharashtra follows with Rs 2.44 crore, while Gujarat has added Rs 1.74 crore. The spread across these markets offers an early indication of the film's reach outside the Kannada-speaking belt.

City, language and version-wise pre-sales split

Among cities, Bengaluru has emerged as the biggest contributor to the film's advance sales, with Rs 8.89 crore. Mysuru follows with Rs 97.27 lakh, while Kalaburagi stands at the third spot with Rs 55 lakh. Tumakuru, Shivamogga, Davanagere, Mangaluru and Belagavi have also registered encouraging advances ahead of release.

The language split, meanwhile, remains heavily tilted towards Kannada. The Kannada 2D version has generated more than Rs 9 crore through the sale of over 4 lakh tickets across thousands of shows. Hindi 2D has recorded the next highest advance sales, while the Telugu 2D version has seen comparatively limited traction at this stage. The numbers underline the importance of Karnataka to the film's opening while also showing where the Hindi and other regional markets currently stand.

Format-wise, standard 2D screenings account for almost the entire advance booking total. Premium formats, including IMAX, make up only a small portion of the overall pre-sales. That leaves room for the final leg of advance booking to determine how much further the film can push its opening-day tally.

For the trade, the bigger benchmark remains Yash's previous release, KGF: Chapter 2. The Prashanth Neel directorial had crossed Rs 80 crore in all-India advance bookings before its April 2022 release, setting an exceptionally high bar for Yash's subsequent theatrical outings. The Hindi market alone had contributed around Rs 22 crore to Rs 27 crore in gross advance bookings.

About Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups

Toxic, therefore, enters its final pre-release stretch with a sizeable advance already on the board, but the comparison with KGF: Chapter 2 also puts its current pace in perspective. The remaining hours of advance sales, particularly in Karnataka, will be crucial in determining where the film lands on day one.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic stars Yash in the lead, alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Akshay Oberoi and Sudev Nair. The gangster action drama has received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The English version has a separate international distribution arrangement with Lionsgate, with further details about its release expected to be announced later.
