A Patna district court on Tuesday granted interim protection from arrest to educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, in connection with a case linked to a firing incident at his coaching institute earlier this month.
The relief came during a hearing on Khan's anticipatory bail plea before the District Judge's court. The court clarified that investigators are free to question Khan in connection with the case, but no coercive or punitive action, including arrest, can be taken against him while the interim protection remains in force.
During earlier proceedings, the court had directed police to produce the case diary and evidence collected in the matter. After hearing submissions by Khan's counsel, the court granted him interim relief. It also reserved its order on the bail plea of Roshan Anand, another accused in the case.
The case relates to an incident on June 2 when a group of 15-20 people allegedly vandalised the premises of Khan Global Studies (KGS) in Patna and pelted stones at the coaching institute run by Khan Sir.
A day later, police detained two security guards associated with the institute after a purported video surfaced on social media allegedly showing them firing shots. Police said the weapons allegedly used in the firing were seized and sent for forensic examination. An FIR was subsequently registered at Kadamkuan police station, and the two guards remain in judicial custody.
While Khan Sir initially alleged that individuals linked to a rival coaching institute were behind the attack on KGS, members of the rival institute later accused him of orchestrating the episode himself. Citing the viral video of the guards allegedly firing shots, they claimed the incident had been staged. Khan Sir has denied the allegations, and the matter remains under investigation.
