The father-in-law and brother-in-law of former cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan allegedly assaulted a passenger in Mumbai following a roadside altercation, police said.

Pathan’s father-in-law, Khalid Khan, and brother-in-law, Umarshad Khan, along with another relative, were detained by the Mumbai Police for allegedly attacking a passenger after the dispute.

The incident took place on Saturday after a vehicle driven by a man identified as Yusuf Khan allegedly splashed water on Shoaib Khan, a relative of Pathan’s in-laws, triggering a verbal altercation.

Police said Yusuf Khan was on his way to lodge a complaint at the police station when he was intercepted by Khalid Khan and others, who allegedly assaulted him. The entire incident was caught on CCTV.

In a counter-complaint, Umarshad Khan has also filed an FIR against the passenger at the same police station that registered the case against him and his father.

A local court in Mumbai is scheduled to hear arguments on Wednesday on the bail pleas of Pathan’s relatives in connection with the alleged assault.

Further investigation into the circumstances and the roadside assault is underway, police said.
