MG to introduce Hector Tomohawk today: Price, range, battery, features and more

JSW MG Motor India is set to unveil its new three-row electric SUV today, expanding its EV portfolio with a model promising long range, premium features and a seven-seat cabin.

JSW MG Motor India is set to introduce its new three-row electric SUV in India today, August 26, expanding its EV portfolio with a model positioned above the Hector. The upcoming seven-seater is expected to be called the Hector Tomohawk, although MG is yet to officially confirm the production name.

The new SUV will be the first MG model in India to be based on the company's ADAPT architecture, which has been developed to support multiple powertrain options. MG has already trademarked the Hector Tomohawk name in India, adding weight to speculation that it could be used for the production model.

The production-spec SUV has been spotted completely undisguised ahead of its debut, revealing a large and upright design aimed at maximising cabin space. At the front, it gets slim horizontal LED daytime running lights, with the MG logo positioned between them. The main headlamps are placed lower down on either side of the bumper.

The front-end features a closed-off upper section, while a large lower air intake gives the SUV a more substantial appearance. The side profile gets large alloy wheels, roof rails, conventional door handles and chunky black cladding around the wheel arches and lower sections of the doors.

The SUV has a long wheelbase and extended rear overhang to accommodate three rows of seats. A large glasshouse and sizeable D-pillar are also expected to improve interior space and visibility. At the rear, slim horizontal tail-lamps stretch towards the sides, giving the SUV a wider stance.

MG has already confirmed that the upcoming SUV will feature three rows of seating. Earlier teasers revealed a beige-themed cabin, while the dashboard is expected to follow a minimalist layout with separate digital displays for the driver and infotainment system.

Expected features include a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, powered and ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate and wireless smartphone charging.

The SUV is also expected to get dual-zone automatic climate control with dedicated air vents for all three rows, a 360-degree camera and an ADAS suite. Six airbags and an electronic parking brake are likely to be part of the equipment list as well.

MG Hector Tomohawk battery, range and performance

MG has not yet revealed the India-spec battery and motor specifications of the new electric SUV. However, the model is expected to share its underpinnings with the Wuling Starlight 560, sold in international markets.

The Wuling model uses a 69.2kWh LFP battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing around 204bhp and 310Nm. It has a claimed CLTC range of up to 530km.

If the India-spec MG uses a similar battery and motor combination, the Hector Tomohawk could offer a claimed range of more than 500km. The final battery capacity, motor output, charging specifications and certified range are expected to be announced at the debut.

The ADAPT architecture can accommodate different powertrain configurations, and MG is also expected to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the SUV at a later stage.

MG Hector Hawk expected price and rivals

The new three-row electric SUV is expected to be priced in the Rs 20 lakh-25 lakh range (ex-showroom). It will sit above the Hector in MG's India line-up and strengthen the company's presence in the growing three-row electric SUV segment.

Once launched, the MG Hector Hawk EV is expected to rival upcoming models such as the Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV.
