UP gangster wanted for murder and robbery, 3 aides killed in police encounter

The Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF) killed four criminals in an encounter in Shamli district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The encounter took place in the Jhinjhina area in Shamli, during which a police personnel was injured in the crossfire.

While three of the deceased were identified as Mustafa Kagga gang member Arshad, his accomplices Manjeet and Satish, one is yet to be identified.

"They were injured during an engagement with the STF Meerut team and succumbed to their injuries," said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Uttar Pradesh, Amitabh Yash, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Inspector Sunil, who led the operation, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gurugram.

According to the police, Arshad was wanted in a robbery case registered at Behat police station in Saharanpur. A reward of Rs 1 lakh had been announced for his capture. Arshad also had multiple cases of robbery, dacoity, and murder against him.

Further legal proceedings in the case are underway, police said.
