The Mumbai Police team that arrived at the murder scene where NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot dead last month in Mumbai reportedly asked the main shooter if he had seen the killers fleeing. According to sources, the shooter, Shiv Kumar Gautam, was waiting at the location to confirm the former minister's death.
Gautam was arrested on November 10 while attempting to flee to Nepal after murdering 66-year-old NCP leader Baba Siddique outside the office of his MLA son, Zeeshan Siddique, in Mumbai on October 12.
Sources said that after shooting Siddique, the shooter fled the scene, changed his clothes, and discarded his bag, Aadhaar card, and pistol and returned to the murder spot around 20 minutes after the shooting.
As he was standing there, police officials approached him and enquired if he had seen the shooters, and he denied seeing anything.
According to sources, Gautam also said he saw accomplices, Dharmaraj Kashyap and Gurmel Singh, being arrested by the police.
After monitoring the situation at the crime scene for a while, Gautam headed towards Lilavati Hospital around 10 pm, where Siddique was rushed to. Then he reached Kurla station and boarded a local train to Thane at approximately 10.47 pm. From Thane, he took a train to Pune and, following the masterminds' instructions, disposed of his mobile phone along the way. At around 4 am on October 13, he boarded a train to Jhansi.
According to sources, Gautam also discussed the murder plot with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's brother, Anmol Bishnoi, according to UP Special Task Force (STF) chief Amitabh Yash on Monday. The Lawarence Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for the murder.
Along with Gautam, the Mumbai Police have so far also arrested four individuals, including Anurag Kashyap, the brother of shooter Dharmaraj Kashyap, who had provided shelter to Shiv. The two masterminds, Shubham Lonkar and Zeeshan Akhtar, are still absconding and some of the arrested accused have revealed information about Lonkar.
