Jonathan Majors has opened up about his past, revealing the deep personal struggles he has faced and how they have shaped his journey. The actor, known for his intense performances, has spoken candidly about experiencing sexual abuse as a child and the impact it has had on his life.
The Creed actor told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview, “I dealt with sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was 9. From people who are supposed to look after you, in the absence of a father. I was f****d up.”
It was only in recent months that Majors confided in his mother about the abuse. Her response was one of sorrow, but he reassured her that their focus should be on healing. “I’m like, ‘It’s not even an issue, mom. I just want you to know. And now we can all get busy and continue to connect and grow and learn from it, because it’s something that was in our family.’”
Reflecting on his father, Majors describes a man of contradictionsboth loving and absent. “My pop is a very beautiful man, very gentle, but had some qualities that were not complementary to family life,” he explains. “He was the best dad until he wasn’t. And when he wasn’t, he was gone.”
The pain of his past has inevitably influenced his relationships, but Majors is committed to self-awareness and growth. “There are no excuses, but by getting help, you begin to understand things about yourself,” he acknowledges.
Now, as he navigates his path forward after the turbulence of recent years, Majors is determined to take control of his own narrative. “At some point there has to be accountability for writing your own story,” he states. “Am I going to fall into that narrative of falling apart, of self-destruction? Have a struggle, blame the world. Have a struggle, hate yourself. Have a struggle, deny everything. None of those narratives is beneficial.”
In December 2023, Majors was found guilty of one count of misdemeanour third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment by a Manhattan jury. Though he avoided jail time, the actor was sentenced to participate in an intervention program.
Following the guilty verdict, Jonathan Majors was dropped by Marvel Studios from future MCU movies, including the next two installments of 'Avengers'. Majors' character, Kang, was set to be the main antagonist in the upcoming Avengers films, with one of the films even titled 'Avengers: Kang Dynasty'. However, due to Majors' departure from the franchise, the studios decided to replace Kang the Conqueror with Dr Doom.
