Google gives Gmail and Docs new AI features, lets you use them with voice now

Google has launched Gemini voice features for Gmail, Docs and Keep in Workspace. The update lets users search, write and organise by speaking, with business access coming soon.

You can now talk to Gemini AI to get things done. Google has added new voice features to Gmail, Docs and Keep, which allow users to search emails, create documents and organise notes just by talking. The idea is simple. Instead of typing everything out, you can now speak and get things done across Google Workspace.

Google announced the new features in a blog post, saying Gemini’s new voice tools are rolling out to Workspace. The company says they can help users draft documents, find information in their inbox and capture ideas using just their voice.

“New Gemini voice capabilities are rolling out so you can search your Gmail inbox, organise thoughts and tasks in Keep, and create new Docs, all conversationally. Rolling out now for Google AI subscribers!” Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in a post on X, sharing the update.

Now let's take a brief look at how to use the new voice feature with Gemini AI.

The update brings three new voice-powered features to Google Workspace: Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live. Each one is designed to handle a different task, but the idea is the same. You talk, and Gemini does the work.

Gmail Live

First is Gmail Live. With Gmail Live, the voice feature lets you search your inbox by simply asking Gemini a question.

Instead of opening different emails or scrolling through long threads, you can just ask something like, “What’s my flight’s gate number?” or “What’s going on at my kid’s school this week?” Gmail Live searches your inbox and gives you the information you need.

Docs Live

Then there’s Docs Live, which Google describes as a hands-free thought partner.

If you have an idea but don’t know where to start, you can just talk to Docs Live and explain what you’re thinking. Gemini can then turn that stream of thoughts into a structured, context-aware document.

With your permission, Docs Live can also pull relevant information from Gmail, Drive, Chat and the web. Google says it can help with brainstorming, creating an outline and even refining the tone as it works towards a first draft.

Keep Live

As the name suggests, this one works inside Google Keep and is designed for quickly capturing your thoughts.

You can simply speak whatever is on your mind, and Gemini can turn that stream of consciousness into organised notes, lists and actionable tasks.

Availability

The new voice features in Gemini AI are rolling out this week. Gmail Live and Keep Live are available to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers, while Docs Live is available to Pro and Ultra subscribers. The company says the features will also come to Google Workspace business customers soon.
