Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 has suffered a major blow at the box office, registering a steep drop on its first Monday. After a mixed opening weekend, the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial managed just Rs 2 crore on August 17, according to trade website Sacnilk, taking its four-day India net collection to Rs 28.50 crore.
The film opened with Rs 5.75 crore on Friday. It witnessed a significant jump on Saturday, collecting Rs 13.50 crore, before its earnings dropped to Rs 7.25 crore on Sunday. The Sunday collection was around 46 per cent lower than Saturday’s figure.
However, the biggest setback came on Monday, when Batwara 1947 recorded a decline of nearly 72 per cent, earning only Rs 2 crore. With this, the film is yet to cross the Rs 30 crore mark in India nett collections after four days.

The film’s India gross collection currently stands at Rs 33.95 crore. Despite the Independence Day weekend providing an extended run, Batwara 1947 has struggled to maintain momentum at the box office. Batwara 1947 has achieved worldwide collections of Rs 40.20 crore.
The film has also faced stiff competition from Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2, which has emerged as the clear winner of the box-office clash. The latter collected Rs 9.25 crore on Monday and has reached Rs 91 crore in India nett collections after four days, putting it within touching distance of the Rs 100 crore mark.
Produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947 stars Sunny Deol as Sikandar Mirza, a Muslim man who moves to Pakistan from India following Partition. While the period drama has received favourable reviews from critics, the response from audiences has not translated into strong box-office numbers.
