The Portugal vs Spain Round of 16 match will start at 12:30 am IST on Tuesday, July 7. Zee5 will provide live streaming of the match in India. Unite8 Sports will offer TV broadcast.
While the neighbours have met 41 times since 1921, this will be only their third meeting at a FIFA World Cup. Spain won their Round of 16 clash in 2010 on the way to lifting the trophy, while the teams played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in the 2018 group stage.
Their most recent competitive meeting, however, went Portugal's way, with the Seleo defeating Spain on penalties in the 2025 UEFA Nations League final to become the first nation to win the competition twice.
CLASH OF GENERATIONS
At 41, Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed this will be his final World Cup. The Portugal captain has continued to rewrite history, becoming the first footballer to score in six different FIFA World Cups. He struck twice in a 5-0 win over Uzbekistan before scoring his first-ever World Cup knockout-stage goal from the penalty spot against Croatia in the Round of 32.
Standing opposite him is Spain's teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. The 18-year-old, whose workload has been managed after minor fitness concerns, is expected to start on the right wing.
The tactical battle promises to be fascinating. Portugal have scored eight goals in four matches, while Luis de la Fuente's Spain boast the tournament's best defensive record, having not conceded a single goal.
Goalkeeper Unai Simon also entered the record books after extending his World Cup clean-sheet streak to 519 consecutive minutes during Spain's 3-0 win over Austria.
