Jana Nayagan is the curtain call to Thalapathy Vijay's three-decade film career before he stepped into politics and was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Various reports have claimed that Vijay was paid between Rs 220 crore and Rs 275 crore for the film, potentially making it one of the highest salaries earned by an Indian actor. While these figures remain unverified, they point to the scale at which the project is being positioned as Vijay's final screen appearance.

As per a report in News18, director H Vinoth reportedly received Rs 25 crore for the film, which is said to be the biggest remuneration of his career. Known for action entertainers, Vinoth is also reported to have spent years shaping the project before it finally went on the floor. Composer Anirudh Ravichander, whose music has powered blockbusters such as Leo and Jailer, is reported to have charged Rs 13 crore for the soundtrack and background score.

The film's leading lady, Pooja Hegde, is reported to have earned Rs 6 crore for the film. Bobby Deol, who plays the principal antagonist, reportedly received between Rs 5-10 crore. Following the success of Animal, he has become a popular choice for high-profile South Indian films.

According to media reports, the supporting cast also received sizeable pay-cheques. Prakash Raj reportedly earned Rs 5 crore, while Priyamani and Gautham Vasudev Menon were paid Rs 3 crore each. Narain is said to have received Rs 2.5 crore. Reports on Mamitha Baiju's remuneration vary widely, with estimates ranging from Rs 60 lakh to Rs 2 crore. None of these figures have been officially confirmed by the makers or independently verified by India Today.

Meanwhile, India Today gave Jana Nayagan a two-star rating in its review, mentioning that Vijay's stardom needed a better swansong. A part of the review read, "Even with the censor board muting most of the direct Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) references and the sharper party call-outs have been softened - what's left on screen is still a film more interested in championing Vijay as a considerate politician and an alternate option that Tamil Nadu badly needed, rather than in telling a story. It's loud and aggressive, but rarely earns either.

The film hit the screens on July 23.
