Toddler abuse in day care case: NHRC issues notice to Karnataka Government

Bengaluru: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to Karnataka Government regarding the toddler abuse in day care case. It seeks detailed report in two days on the matter if it is true.

NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance after the videos of nannies of day care abusing toddlers in Bengaluru went viral on the internet.

The NHRC says is the content and the viral videos are true then this issue needs attention and seriousness as it violets human rights.

In the viral videos, the nannies were seen abusing the children in several ways such as making them sit in the drum of a front-loading washing machine, water sprayed into their mouths with a toilet jet spray, and locked in washroom.

As per repots, two nannies of the alleged day care identified as Vijayalakshmi and Manjula were arrested yesterday. Five nannies are booked for physical abuse and psychological intimidation of toddlers.

The five nannies have been identified as Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu, and Bindu. A case has been registered under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and Section 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal intimidation.

The company under which the day care was opened has also stated that the daycare’s main concern is keeping families and staff safe and healthy. So the daycare has been temporarily closed.

Following the incident, parents are very angry about what happened. They trusted the daycare to watch their kids while they worked at the IT Company. People are now very worried about how safe daycares are and how well they are watched, especially the ones inside company offices.

Further investigation into this matter is underway.
