Punjab: A 42-year-old self-proclaimed godman has been arrested by the police in Kapurthala on charges of sexual harassment and stalking, police said on Sunday. The accused is yet to be arrested.

The accused identified as Bajinder Singh, runs the Church of Glory and Wisdom in Tajpur village of Jalandhar district. Bajinder Singh is a native of Haryana but currently residing in New Chandigarh.

According to information, a 22-year-old female filed a complaint on February 28 stating that she had been harassed by the accused since 2020. The woman along with her parents began going to the church from 2017. She was also a part of the worship team of the preacher from 2020 to 2022. When she was involved with the preacher’s worship team, the accused got her mobile number and began sending her inappropriate and unwanted messages.

The woman also reported that the accused stalked her to college and intimidated her. He threatened that if she reported to anyone about the messages and incidents, she would suffer gravely. The police have charged the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation.

The accused has had issues previously. In 2022, a woman in Zirakpur accused him of rape. He was acquitted, but another controversy arose in September 2022. A Delhi family claimed that he took money from them to pray for their daughter’s cancer treatment, but he did not help.

The supporters of the pastor are defending him. They blocked a Lambhra road and called for a thorough probe. They alleged that the complaint was lodged as a conspiracy against the accused.

Bajinder Singh transformed himself into a self-proclaimed preacher in 2012. He preaches healing from ailments and diseases by praying. He has a huge following, with almost 3 million followers on social media and centers abroad.
