PM Modi to launch projects worth over Rs 13,000 crore during Chennai visit

Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay foundation stone for development works in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, worth over Rs 13,000 crore in Chennai. Key projects announced include metro rail, highways, railway infrastructure and port-related works.
A major highlight of the trip will be inauguration of the Poonamallee-Vadapalani section of Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 2, constructed at a cost of Rs 4,900 crore.
The Prime Minister also needs to make a metro journey between the Porur Bypass and Poonamallee Bypass stations.
The projects involve the 36-kilometre, four-lane stretch of NH-744 between Vadugapatti and Therkuvenganallur, Madurai Ring Road section of NH-744A (30 kilometres), and the laying of the foundation stone for the four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass NH-83.

Railway projects with a capital expenditure of above Rs 750 crore are also on the cusp of being completed. Several flyovers in Coimbatore and adjoining areas will be inaugurated, and the ports infrastructure in Tamil Nadu will be strengthened.
Also, on this visit, Modi will unveil the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras, visit the Jalakandeswarar Temple and participate in the celebrations for the golden jubilee of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School.
The visit is a part of an overall development strategy to enhance transport connectivity to lower traffic congestion, and to promote robust infrastructure across Tamil Nadu.
