New Delhi: U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States has agreed to continue talks with Iran after Tehran requested negotiations, but declared that the June ceasefire between the two countries is “over.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue ‘talks.’ We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!”

The announcement came after a week of escalating violence in the Strait of Hormuz. According to a report cited by the White House, Iranian forces fired on three commercial vessels in the strait, prompting Trump to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Monday.

Following that briefing, Trump ordered a new wave of U.S. strikes on Iranian targets, reinstated sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and threatened to restore a U.S. naval blockade.
