New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Google CEO Sundar Pichai rejected his proposal to rename the Atlantic Ocean “Trump Ocean”, citing the fact that oceans span multiple countries.

Speaking at an event in South Carolina, Trump said he had approached Pichai about changing the name on Google Maps.

According to Trump, Pichai told him that oceans were different and the company could not make such a change.

Trump said he would likely drop the idea, asking the audience whether the Atlantic Ocean should retain its existing name.

The remarks come after Trump previously suggested renaming the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean as “Trump Ocean” or “Ocean of the Americas”.

He has also pushed for geographical name changes, including the Gulf of Mexico being renamed the Gulf of America for US government use.

Trump’s account of his conversation with Pichai has not been independently confirmed.
