Bail to wrestler Sushil Kumar in the murder case of junior wrestler Sagar Dhankhar
by Sudeshna Panda · KalingaTVDelhi: The Delhi High Court has granted bail to wrestler Sushil Kumar in the murder case of junior wrestler Sagar Dhankhar. The High Court has granted bail to Sushil Kumar on a bond of Rs 50. Sushil Kumar was arrested in May 2021 in a murder case.
Earlier, in July 2023, Sushil was granted interim bail for seven days. Delhi’s Rohini Court granted bail and said that during the 7-day bail period, two security guards will be with him for 24 hours. This bail was granted from July 23 to July 30. For this, he had to give a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. During this time, Sushil asked not to intimidate witnesses and not to destroy evidence.
According to the chargesheet filed in the case, Sushil Kumar wanted to extend his dominance among wrestlers. So Sushil Kumar organized a wrestling match at the Chhatrasal Stadium. At this time, junior wrestler Sagar Dhankhar lost his life. So Sushil Kumar was arrested.
Apart from Sushil, his friend Sonu and three others are involved in the murder of 23-year-old Sagar. The attack took place on May 4, 2021. Sagar died due to injuries. After this incident, Sushil Kumar was arrested by the Delhi Police and sent to Rohini Court. He was sent to jail in October 2021.
Sushil Kumar, a two-time Olympic medalist, started his career at the Chhatrasal Stadium Akhara. He was 14 years old at the time. He was also awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khelratna Award for his performance in wrestling. He has won gold medals in the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.
On wrestler Sushil Kumar granted bail, his counsel Advocate R S Malik told ANI, “There has been a long delay. He has been in jail for the last three and a half years. All witnesses have been examined. No evidence has been presented against him so far. The court considered this as one of the grounds for bail, so he was granted bail today… 31 witnesses have been examined…”
