New Delhi: Delhi Police have placed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke and party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka under preventive arrest.
The action came on a day the party had scheduled its Jantar Mantar 2.0 protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the anomalies allegedly found in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the rolls.
Delhi Police said all three leaders were to be produced before an executive magistrate at Delhi Cantt Police Station. They were taken into custody at the Indira Gandhi International Airport after their arrival from Mumbai on Saturday.
The planned protest was to press for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner and the abolition of SIR exercise.
Delhi Police had refused to grant permission for the dharna, citing law and order issues, safety of the public and potential inconvenience to the residents.
The arrests were made in a security clampdown in the national capital, with the cops stationed at various places to stop the protesters from assembling at Jantar Mantar.

Authorities also detained several other individuals as they attempt to deter the intended protest.
CJP condemned the police action, saying the leaders’ arrests were meant to sabotage their protest.
The party said it continued to complain about the issue.
The row is over alleged irregularities found in the SIR (special enrollment drive), where voters’ lists are revised.
Recent events have escalated the row between protesters and officials over the planned protest and the issues raised regarding the identification process.
