Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the country while the northeast monsoon has commented for South India, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today.

According to the weather department, the withdrawal of the monsoon from all parts of the country is now complete, and clear signs of a seasonal transition are evident. Under the influence of the Northeast Monsoon, rainfall has commenced in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and south interior Karnataka.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert, as heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the next few days.

Following the withdrawal of the monsoon from the state, there is no possibility of heavy rainfall in Odisha at present. For the next week, the weather across most parts of the state will remain predominantly dry, with clear skies.

Meanwhile, the influx of dry, cold air from the north is expected to cause night-time temperatures to drop by 2 to 3 degrees. In particular, in interior and hilly districts such as Koraput, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, and Kendujhar, a mild chill will be felt during the morning and night hours, accompanied by fog in some areas.

On the other hand, a Western Disturbance is currently active over North India. Under its influence, snowfall has occurred in the high-altitude mountainous regions of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, while light to moderate rainfall has been recorded in Punjab, Haryana, and the Delhi-NCR region. Consequently, temperatures across North India have begun to drop rapidly.
