8 killed and more than 100 hospitalised after drinking contaminated water in Indore

Indore: At least 8 killed and more than 100 residents of Bhagirathpura area of Indore were hospitalised after allegedly drinking contaminated water supplied on December 25.
The water supplied by the municipal corporation had unusual taste and odour and some people allegedly fell ill after consuming it.
According to the officials, more than hundreds were hospitalised and 8 people including four women were killed during the treatment.
Health officials stated that several patients continue to remain under observation, though the condition of many has stabilised.

According to the reports, local MLA and Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya visited hospitals to meet the affected families and reiterated that treatment would be provided free of cost.
The local authorities have initiated tests of water samples and are examining the city’s supply network to determine the source of contamination as concerns over the safety of Indore’s drinking water continues to grow.
Meanwhile, zonal in-charge Shaligram Sitole and assistant Yogesh Joshi and PHE in-charge Subnaitri Shubham Srivastava were suspended.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressing grief over the deaths said that the state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and bear the medical expenses of all the affected persons.
