Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has taken the Fakir Mohan Autonomous College student’s self-immolation attempt case “very seriously,” said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi after meeting the student and enquiring about her health condition at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar.

While speaking to the newsmen, the CM informed that a medical team has been assembled to provide her care. The next 24 hours is very crucial for the student’s treatment but the state government has made elaborate arrangement for the same. If needed, she will be airlifted to Delhi for further and better medication, he said.

Majhi who visited the hospital with Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo also had a discussion with the team of doctors and later he virtually had a meeting with the doctors of the AIIMS, Delhi, regarding the future course of treatment of the student.

Besides, the CM met the family members of the girl and expressed his sympathy apart from assuring all support and justice for the girl.

It is to be noted here that the 20-year-old student attempted self-immolation after alleged sexual harassment by her HOD Sameer Ranjan Sahoo. She has sustained 90 to 95 per cent burn injuries and is on ventilator support in the ICU at Bhubaneswar AIIMS.
