Uttarakhand becomes India’s sixth fully literate state

Dehradun: According to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) programme Uttarakhand Becomes India’s Sixth literate state in India on Wednesday.

The state cabinet had approved the proposal on June 19. Uttarakhand records above 98 percent literacy rate.

The achievement of the sixth literate state comes after meeting the adult literacy standards set by the Union Ministry of Education. Governor Gurmeet Singh declared Uttarakhand a fully literate state after approving the proposal.

The title of literate state has been already achieved by Mizoram, Goa, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim before Uttarakhand.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has stated that this is a major achievement and has said this was only possible after combined efforts of the government and the people of the state.

He further said that government will continue its efforts towards improving digital literacy, financial literacy, education and life skills for the benefits of all the citizens of the state.
