Japan: A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Japan on Sunday, including the greater Tokyo area, injuring at least 37 people, said local officials
The shallow earthquake was centred on southern Ibaraki Prefecture, about 70 kilometres below the surface, Japan’s meteorological agency said.
The US Geological Survey measured the quake at 5.8 magnitude.
The incidents were reported in all areas around Tokyo-Saitama, Kanagawa, Chiba and Ibaraki.
Fifteen of those 37 were injured in Tokyo, nine in Saitama, eight in Kanagawa, four in Chiba and one in Ibaraki.
The injuries are mostly superficial, most sustaining whiplash type injuries due to falling or crashing into furniture and doors after being surprised by the trembling.
A elderly in Yokohama suffered serious hip fracture, because she fell off her bed, local reports say.

Emergency phone alerts went off, and people felt tremors.
Limited express, local, and regional services disrupted trains, among them on lines linked with Tokyo’s Narita Airport, although trains to the bullet trains were still operating unaffected.
Additionally, an underground water pipeline was damaged in Tokyo’s Koto ward and spouted up from a street, in the incident authorities then fixed.
No anomalies had occurred with any nuclear power plant operators within the country.
Japan had no tsunami in conjunction with the earthquake and then a committee has been formed by its government.
Japanese meteorological agency advised to be careful as another similar in severity could occur again in seven day.
