Suitcase Murder: Odisha Couple Suspected in Woman’s Killing, Three Police Teams Launch Hunt

Bhubaneswar: A suspected couple from Odisha is on the run after a woman’s body was found stuffed inside a red suitcase at Agra Cantonment Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh.

Police have formed three independent teams and sent them to Odisha to track down the suspects, identified as Manikuddin Laskar and his wife Bhagmati Majhi.

Police are also probing the link between the accused and the victim.

The case came to light on August 6 when the Tamil Nadu Express was en route from Chennai Central to New Delhi. After the train arrived at Agra, a foul smell was emanating from a red suitcase lying in a general coach.

Passengers alerted railway staff, and when police opened the suitcase in Agra, they found the headless, dismembered body of a woman.

To crack the suitcase mystery, Agra Police with the help of Tamil Nadu Police examined several CCTV footages from Chennai Central and Guduvanchery area.

In the footage, a man and a woman were seen arriving at Chennai Central station carrying the red suitcase and boarding the train. However, the duo got down at Guduvanchery and left in an auto-rickshaw.

During investigation, the trail of the suitcase led police to a rented house on Masjid Street in Guduvanchery. When police reached there, the house was found locked. On gathering information from the landlord and locals, it was found that two women and a man were living there.

The identity of the deceased woman was later established as Haidul Nisa, a resident of Paramakudi area.

Based on CCTV footage and mobile phone signals, police tracked Manikuddin Laskar and Bhagmati Majhi. Both were found to have fled to Odisha.

Police have now sent three separate teams to Odisha to nab the couple. The focus of the investigation is now on establishing the motive behind the murder, the relationship between the accused and the deceased, and the complete sequence of events after abandoning the suitcase in the train.
